Rigby Group-led taskforce calls for national mobilisation on AI

22 Oct 2026

A coalition of senior leaders from across the technology sector, convened by Rigby Group, has launched a new blueprint for UK AI leadership, calling for urgent action to translate ambition into delivery.

The Project Sovereign AI Leadership (SAIL) Taskforce, chaired by Steve Rigby, CEO of Rigby Group, brought together leaders from organisations including Microsoft, Nvidia, Cisco, BT, Barclays and OneAdvanced to assess progress since the Government's AI Opportunities Action Plan and identify the actions needed to secure the UK's long-term competitiveness.

The resulting report, Project SAIL: Mobilising the Nation, argues that while the UK has established a strong vision for AI leadership, the next phase will require closer collaboration between government, industry, local leaders and communities to deliver the infrastructure, skills and public confidence needed for success.

The Taskforce highlights that Britain has a limited window to build public support for the infrastructure required to underpin AI growth, and proposes a new "Prosperity Compact" between government, business, places and citizens. It also sets out ten recommendations focused on accelerating compute capacity, strengthening the UK's skills base and establishing a practical approach to sovereign AI.

Rigby Group company, SCC, Europe's largest privately owned technology provider, contributed to the project.

Steve Rigby, CEO of Rigby Group and Chair of the Project SAIL Taskforce, said:

"AI is the defining technology of our generation, but realising its £75 billion economic potential requires genuine mobilisation of the entire nation. By establishing a clear Prosperity Compact between government, industry, and local communities, we can build the infrastructure we need, equip our workforce with future-ready skills, and ensure Britain's digital destiny. This taskforce's goal isn't another strategy document, but high-impact actions that materially accelerate the UK's transition to an AI-enabled economy."
